Meijer has pork loins on sale again for $1.89 per pound so we got another one Sunday and had the butcher cut it into one inch chops for us. This afternoon Sheri marinated three of them in teriyaki sauce and I put them on the grill after we ran a few errands tonight. I cooked them to an internal temperature of 155ยบ. I have had expensive "expense report" steaks that were not even close to how good these are. Pork loin chops on the grill is my new favorite thing. Close to zero gristle and extra fat. You HAVE to use a thermometer, preferably an electric digital one, because they go from juicy-delicious to dried out very quickly. This is because of it being such a lean piece of meat.
I had a big lunch so I was not hungry for dinner as soon as I got home. We went out and did some errands to work up an appetite. We went to Menard's and got:
- another 5 gallon bucket of seal coat to finish the driveway
- two jars of Fischer dry roasted peanuts
- a 5 pound bag of Fischer peanuts in their shells
- a Stanley interchangeable screwdriver that was on sale
Then we were going to go to Wal-Mart so I could look at the cans of refrigerant for automobile air conditioning systems. On the way there I noticed a new Murray's Discount Auto store, so we went in there instead. We had a Murray's in Toledo and I really like them.
There is a slow leak on the air conditioning compressor of my car. The dealership charges $100 to recharge it each spring. To replace the compressor would be $700. A can of refrigerant costs $10, and the pressure gauge thing you need to install it is a one time cost of between $15 and $25. I read the instructions on the back of a couple of packages and it sounds straightforward enough. When we got to the parking lot I popped the lid of the van and was able to find the nipple on the low pressure tube where you add more refrigerant. I would expect it to be equally easy to find on my car.
I think what I will do is ask one of my mechanic friends at work if they would look over my shoulder while I do it the first time to make sure I am doing it right.
