It looks like The Associated Press (first picture) has better cartographers on staff than the CDC (second picture). It looks like the AP used an equal area projection, like Albers, while the CDC used something like a Mercator projection. The horrendous colors aside, can you see the difference when they are side by side, or am I just anal retentive?
