Thyroid Cancer Status

It dawned on me that, because we have not really mentioned it for several weeks now, people might be afraid to ask how Sheri is recovering from her thyroid cancer surgery; like it is a sensitive topic, or things are not going well.

Well, the reason we have not mentioned anything about it is because it is a non-issue. There have been zero complications. The scar has been healing exceptionally well. There are no side effects not having a thyroid, or from the actually surgery. She just takes a little pill every morning and then goes about life as before.

She goes back to the surgeon in May for a follow-up to make sure he removed all of the thyroid tissue. If it has all been removed I think she is pretty much done with follow-up visits to the surgeon. If tests indicate there is a little bit of thyroid tissue left, all they do is give her a little bit of radioactive iodine via an IV drip. It accumulates in the left-over thyroid tissue, kills it, and is then eliminated from her system. That's it. No more surgery or nothing.
